My name is Jan.
I’m an accountant by trade. My passion for candles goes back many years. The scent of a candle often brings back memories of meaningful times in my life. Of course, life has difficult moments too. During one such challenging time, I found myself asking God, “What should I think about? Everything in this world feels so dark.” He reminded me of Philippians 4:8, which tells us to think about what is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, or good. Focusing on positive things—like beautiful flowers, a good book, a quiet moment alone, or the laughter of loved ones—can make a difference in your life. Candles date back over 5,000 years, with the earliest known examples created by ancient Egyptians using reed torches soaked in animal fat.
Wick candles were developed in ancient Rome, using tallow (animal fat) and rolled papyrus dipped multiple times in fat or wax.
Beeswax was introduced in the Middle Ages. It produced less smoke and had a milder odor compared to tallow, but due to its higher cost, it was primarily used in churches and by individuals of higher economic status.
